HERE'S WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN
In this module, your child will realize that they are not average but unique. Embracing that uniqueness, they can face many challenges without feeling discouraged or beaten down or, worse, inadequate. They will grow in self-confidence, breaking free from math anxiety. Picture your child tackling math problems with a new, positive mindset, no longer avoiding math homework out of fear but approaching it with curiosity and strength.
UNDERSTANDING is the heart of the proprietary BUS™ method
and is the focus of the second module in this course. In both life and
math, just understanding the problem you face goes most of the way to solving it.
Your child will gain the skills to decode complex word problems, converting
confusion into clarity. Imagine the relief as they confidently dissect problems and tackle them step-by-step, leading to better grades and less frustration.
Building on the prior two modules, the child learns to SOLVE the now understood problem. With this skill mastered, math will no longer be something they fear. Freed of their fear of math, their educational and career pathways are open. Finance, engineering, science, the arts - it's all open to them.
Meet Your Coach/Tutor
Like many of you, I trusted in the education system. After all, I had been through it, my wife had been through it and so had all of my peers. I just took for granted the common “wisdom” that some people are capable in math and some people will never get it. I thought math skill is something inherited or picked up from parents early in life.
But I now know that wasn’t true and it’s useful to relate the story because it leads directly to this course.
I loved math from almost as young as I can remember. That interest eventually led me to a Ph.D. in Engineering and a long career as a Chief Technology Officer in various companies.
But my daughter, even by 3rd grade, was flat out scared of math…
She hadn't been scared when she started, so what happened in the first few years of elementary school? …
The public school education in math was just making her feel defeated and unworthy. This was despite intellectual assessments indicating she should be in honors classes! The school system may have been well-meaning but all they were doing was convincing my daughter that she couldn’t learn math!
After reviewing the way she was being taught, my wife and I decided to pull her out of public school and homeschool her. It was transformational. It shouldn’t have been, but it was. I had never taught elementary school math in my life but I was determined to build the confidence in Josie that I knew she was capable of and quite frankly, something she deserved..
……
Leveraging my love and deep expertise in math, I created a learning path to rebuild my daughter's skill and confidence simultaneously. Initially, when tackling a math lesson, she would literally scream out of frustration. But gradually her skill and confidence improved. Today she is in graduate school studying psychology where math skills like statistics are central to the program. While she may not love math the way I do, she's comfortable and confident with it - at grad school level. That confidence and ability flowed directly out of the custom, deliberate program I developed to help her - one I call the BUS™ technique.
